I am a mother to three girls (9, 12, and 13) and through parenting I am brought back to moments in my life at the same ages that they are going through. Music has always been a way for me to explore my emotions as well when words fail me. I see them playing this out as well in their playlists, sometimes dark and full of angst, sometimes cheery and upbeat. My own playlist has a similar roller coaster feel to it. The song that I think I have played the most this year and that I hear my girls playing often is “It’s Alright” by Mother, Mother. Thank you for reminding me of this Jason.

Jason, even when you say that you are lacking words , your words are very moving. I think we all lack them especially in the moment of loss - loss of safety, of an old identity, of an emotionally important object or person. I lost my words few times - loosing my parents, selling their house, moving away. I call it "loosing exercises" , we have to practice to mature. Do you know the book "Necessary Losses" of Judith Viorst? An invaluable resource for working with clients in mourning and a book to keep for a lifetime. Thank you for sharing... and for finding words.
